Mauricio Redondo - Environment Artist

My main responsibilities as an Environment Artist were to populate the levels I was assigned to with props, modify existing geometry and layout, adding new map sections and improving player progression. I usually worked closely with other environment artists/level designers, animators and gameplay designers.

More specific responsibilities includes:

  • Creating props and vehicles, with or without concept art
  • Creating props for cutscenes and animation, from blocked out meshes
  • Tree-system RnD together with programmers
  • Responsible for creating 80% of the games current foliage (trees, bushes, grass, vines etc)
  • Creating textures for use with the Megatexture "stamping" technology
  • Stamping levels by placing and blending layers of decals and foliage over terrain and meshes
  • World modelling, adding new map sections and iterating existing ones for gameplay purposes

During 2 years I've been working on 12 different levels for the game, with varying degrees of work.
